Tipsy Pears

  • Cuisine: american

  • 3-4 pears, peeled and cut into slices or wedges. Any variety will do.
  • 1Tb unsalted butter
  • 1Tb Light brown sugar (use whatever sugar you have. I find light brown sugar adds a soft caramel flavor without overpowering the natural flavor of pears)
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick, or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4c white wine
  • 1 oz whisky

  1. Place pears, butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and salt into a medium saucepan and heat over a medium flame.
  2. Once the contents in the pot start to sizzle, cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the wine and whisky and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. If liquid is still runny, cook for another 1-2 minutes, until most of the liquid has evaporated and the liquid that remains is syrupy.
