This easy, delicious blackberry mojito recipe has everything a summer cocktail should have. It's cold and refreshing and loaded with fresh ingredients, plus it's absolutely stunning, like most blackberry cocktails are.

The best time of year to make any mojito is summertime, when the warm weather makes you crave ice cold fruity cocktails. In fact, I have quite a few other summer drink recipes that fit this description on my website, such as this Grapefruit Basil Cocktail.
Blackberries also reach peak sweetness in July and August here on the East Coast, so it's the perfect time to whip up a batch of blackberry simple, and use it to make tons of amazing cocktails like this blackberry mojito.
How to make this Blackberry Mojito Recipe
This short video will show you how to make it. Refer to the ingredients and instructions below for more details.
Ingredients
This Blackberry Mint Mojito Recipe makes 2 servings, but can easily be scaled down to make a single serving. Or you can scale it up to make a larger batch.
One of its 5 ingredients is blackberry simple syrup, which uses fresh blackberries and only takes about 10 minutes to make.
- Fresh Mint Leaves
- Fresh Lime juice plus 2 lime wedges for muddling
- Blackberry simple syrup (make ahead)
- White rum (you could use dark rum, but white is traditional)
- 12 oz club soda/ soda water
- Lots of ice
- More mint, lime wedges, and blackberries for garnish (optional)

See Recipe Card for quantities.
Steps
- Muddle the lime wedges and mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Then add the blackberry syrup, lime juice, and light rum.
- Fill the shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the drink is nice and cold.
- Strain the cocktail mixture into 2 tall glasses filled with ice then fill the glasses the rest of the way with soda water.
- Garnish with mint, lime wedges, and/or fresh blackberries.

Substitutions
There is one main way to modify this refreshing blackberry mojito recipe to suit your sober and/or pregnant friends.
- Blackberry Mojito Mocktail: You can easily make this delicious cocktail alcohol-free. In fact, I did jus that while testing the recipe so my pregnant friend could join in the fun. Simply leave out the rum. And though virgin mojitos don't get you tipsy, they taste almost exactly the same.
Variations
If you don't have all the ingredients on hand or just want to change things up a little, here are a few alternatives to try.
- Other fruity spins: Instead of blackberry syrup, use strawberry, blueberry, or raspberry syrup. Though I don't yet have written recipes for these syrups, you can still follow my blackberry syrup recipe and just swap out the fruit you use.
- Lemon juice: Though lime juice is traditional to this delicious Cuban drink, lemon mojitos are also very refreshing. Plus, blackberry flavor pairs well with lemon flavor.
Blackberry Mojito FAQ
Where did the mojito originate?
There are mixed stories about how the mojito came to be, but one thing is certain: this iconic rum cocktail originated in Cuba, probably in the 1500s. Although, it didn't gain such worldwide popularity until the 1900s when it started popping up in movies and tv shows. (chilledmagazine.com)
Fun fact: When I was in college, I went to Sevilla, Spain, where mojitos are quite popular. My sister and I tasted 9 different mojitos on our trip, each one unique in its own way. SO much fun.
How does this Blackberry Mojito Recipe differ from a traditional mojito recipe?
There are 2 main ways in which this blackberry mojito recipe differs from traditional mojito recipes.
1: Most traditional mojito recipes call for muddling directly in the drinking glass. This allows for a nice presentation and lets you know "There's fresh mint and lime in here!"
This blackberry version, however, calls for muddling the mint and lime wedges in a cocktail shaker and shaking until extra cold. I prefer all my cocktails to be extra cold, so I'm typically team shaker. But you absolutely can just use the glass.
2: The second difference is that the classic mojito recipe calls for white sugar. In addition to its sweetness, sugar also acts as an abrasive that helps muddle the mint and limes.
But this Blackberry Mojito doesn't call for white sugar because it calls for blackberry syrup, which already contains white sugar. I find that a good muddler does a pretty good job at crushing the ingredients and releasing all the lime and mint flavors into the drink.
How do you make the syrup?
Follow my easy blackberry syrup recipe to make it. The basic process involves simmering blackerries, sugar, and water together in a saucepan and then straining through a sieve to remove the blackberry seeds. It's so incredibly easy to do.
How do you scale it up?
To make 6 servings, simply triple the recipe. You'll need a larger vessel to muddle in; I recommend a pitcher. Since you won't be using a shaker, you'll have to give it a good stir until the drink is nice and cold. Top the drink with the club soda just before serving... Don't want it to lose its fizz!
